Madison County -- September 4, 2026: A parole violator was shot by Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies late Thursday night in Marshall while deputies attempted to serve warrants. The officer-involved shooting occurred at 9:41 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2026, at a residence on 1934 Sandy Mush Road in Marshall. According to Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood, deputies were attempting to serve active warrants on a suspect wanted for a felony post-release supervision violation and felony fleeing to elude arrest.
During the apprehension attempt, the suspect was shot. Deputies on scene immediately rendered first aid. The individual was then transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. No Madison County deputies were injured during the incident.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. SBI agents are processing the crime scene and conducting a thorough review of the incident, which is standard procedure for such events.
