Madison County -- August 13, 2026: A tragic single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Madison County has taken the life of a 67-year-old local woman.
According to officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, along U.S. 25/70 near the Fore Road intersection.
Initial investigative reports indicate that the SUV was traveling along the highway when it veered off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle subsequently overturned multiple times before coming to a rest on its passenger side.
First responders from Madison County EMS arrived at the scene shortly after the call came in, where they confirmed that the driver had succumbed to her injuries. State troopers have since identified the victim as Marcia Owle, 67, of Cherokee.
Authorities confirmed that Owle was the sole occupant of the SUV at the time of the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
