Details of the Crash
Investigators report that a man operating a 2001 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound at a “high rate of speed” when he lost control of the vehicle. The Honda crossed the center line and struck a 2023 Ford F-150 head-on.
The driver of the Honda was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the impact and was ejected through the windshield. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities have not yet released his identity, as they are still working to notify his next of kin.
Family Injured
The Ford F-150 involved in the crash was occupied by a man, his wife, and their two children. While the impact was severe, troopers confirmed that all four family members were transported to Mission Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Road Closure and Recovery
Following the collision, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) issued a TIMS alert closing N.C. 191 in both directions. The roadway remained blocked for over two hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigators processed the scene. The highway was reopened around 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
