Fairview -- September 22, 2026: Authorities are actively searching for a hit-and-run driver following a fatal pedestrian crash Monday evening in Buncombe County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 8:17 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, along Cane Creek Road in Fairview.
Troopers reported that 29-year-old Amber Hudgens of Fairview was walking along the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene. Emergency personnel responded, but Hudgens was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.
Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a small red passenger car.
Troopers are currently working to locate the vehicle and identify the driver responsible for the deadly collision. Anyone who was traveling along Cane Creek Road around the time of the crash, witnessed suspicious activity, or has information regarding a small red vehicle with fresh damage is urged to contact the N.C. State Highway Patrol or local law enforcement.
