FAIRVIEW -- Congratulations to the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department on much-needed donated equipment & vehicle!
VFD in Buncombe County made the announcement yesterday on social media:
We would like to thank our Support OPS Team for purchasing this used SUV from another fire department to be used as our primary transport vehicle for our Search and Rescue K9.
We would also like to thank Protection4Paws for providing the K9 transportation equipment that was installed in the vehicle to allow us to safely transport our K9. The vehicle is now equipped with a vehicle K9 kennel designed for the safe transportation of K9’s as well as a temperature monitoring system. If the temperature in the vehicle rises over a certain temperature it will automatically activate the horn , roll the windows down and turn on a fan mounted inside the vehicle to keep the K9 cooled down. Simultaneously it will send a text through an App that will alert the handler as well as multiple others that the temperature in the vehicle is rising and to check on the K9.
We are very grateful for the donation of the vehicle from the Fairview VFD Support Ops Team and for the donation of equipment from donors through Protection for Paws. Our K9’s can now be safely transported to incidents where they are needed. James Myers is the Handler for Scout and he is also our Safety Officer and Training Captain for the Department. His primary responsibility on incidents such as structure fires and wildland fires is safety and accountability of our personnel.
This vehicle will also be utilized in his duties as the Safety Officer. Today the vehicle just returned from having the graphics from the former fire department removed and our graphics installed. This is another addition/ improvement to the operations of our department. Both the Safety Officer and the K9 Division have proven to be very beneficial to not only this department but for Buncombe and surrounding counties.
