Buncombe County -- June 9, 2026: Yesterday Fairview VFD posted the following on social media: Crews were dispatched last night to a motor vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find a single vehicle accident, with the vehicle approximately 40ft. down a steep embankment into a tree.
Thankfully the driver which was the only occupant in the vehicle was uninjured. They were unable to exit the vehicle and up the very steep terrain on their own. Our crews had to use chainsaws to clear a path through the brush and used ropes/rigging and a rescue basket to bring the patient up the steep embankment and back to the roadway to be checked out more thoroughly by our Paramedics. The driver stated that they were ok and refused transport to the hospital. Due to the steep terrain and the trees, this could have been a much different outcome and we are thankful that the driver was uninjured
