Asheville -- April 18, 2026: The Asheville Police Department (APD) took a significant bite out of local crime this week, arresting four men in connection with a surge of bicycle thefts that have plagued the downtown area. The operation, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was bolstered by the use of real-time drone technology to track and apprehend the suspects.
The crackdown follows a worrying trend in the city; over the past several months, reported losses from bicycle thefts have climbed to nearly $50,000.
The Arrests
Four individuals were taken into custody and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility. The charges and bond amounts are as follows:
Dakota Edward M. Kudlacik (28): Charged with Felony Larceny, Felony Probation Violation, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Held under a $15,000 secured bond.
Victor Shane Slack (53): Charged with Felony Larceny and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Held under a $2,000 secured bond.
Tyler Dane Sherrill (42): Charged with Felony Larceny. Held under a $2,500 secured bond.
Marc Robert Irvine (51): Charged with Felony Larceny. Held under a $2,000 secured bond.
