Downtown Foot Patrol Leads to Drug Arrests on Haywood Street

Asheville -- August 11, 2026: A late-night foot patrol by the Asheville Police Department in downtown Asheville led to the arrest of two individuals wanted on open warrants, as well as the seizure of illegal narcotics late Sunday evening.

Asheville -- August 11, 2026: A late-night foot patrol by the Asheville Police Department in downtown Asheville led to the arrest of two individuals wanted on open warrants, as well as the seizure of illegal narcotics late Sunday evening.

At approximately 11:01 p.m. on August 9th, officers conducting proactive foot patrols along Haywood Street made contact with two individuals identified as Charles Wade Steiner, 60, and Samantha Mariah Scott, 33.

Upon identifying the subjects, officers confirmed that both Steiner and Scott had active outstanding warrants. During the course of taking both individuals into custody, officers discovered narcotics in Steiner's possession.

Seized Narcotics

  • 14.24 grams methamphetamine (packaged weight)

  • 0.99 grams marijuana

Suspect Details and Charges

Charles Wade Steiner (DOB: 02/05/1964)

Steiner faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following the incident, including drug offenses occurring in close proximity to a public park:

  • Felony: Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance

  • Felony: Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance

  • Felony: Manufacture, Sell, Deliver, or Produce Controlled Substance Within 1,000 Feet of a Park

  • Misdemeanor: Simple Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance

  • Misdemeanor: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

  • City Ordinance Violation: Consumption and Possession of Malt Beverages or Unfortified Wine

  • Steiner was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $10,200 secured bond issued by a magistrate.

    Samantha Mariah Scott (DOB: 11/23/1990)

    Scott was arrested and processed on the following charges and outstanding warrants:

    • Misdemeanor: Second-Degree Trespass

    • City Ordinance Violation: No Camping on City Property

    • Open Warrant: Second-Degree Trespass

    Scott was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $200 secured bond issued by a magistrate.
