Patrol Deputies with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a report of a gunshot wound around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 55-year-old William Jennings Bryan Clay III, a resident of Kreston Drive, deceased.
The Criminal Investigation Division and the Crime Scene Investigation Team responded to the scene and are actively investigating the incident.
Sheriff Miller has assured the community that the incident is isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
BCSO District 2 Captain Chris Stockton offered his appreciation for the department’s response. “I appreciate the quick response of BCSO personnel and how they compassionately carried out their responsibilities tonight,” said Captain Stockton. “Our hearts go out to those whose lives have been impacted by this incident.”
The BCSO stated that this is an active investigation and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
