Fairview -- August 13, 2026: Newly released North Carolina death certificates are providing critical details surrounding the violent deaths of three Fairview family members found inside their home this past May.
Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42, Sharon Kay Grant, 66, and Travis Eugene Grant, 41, were discovered deceased on the evening of May 7 at their residence at 18 Ashworth Drive. While authorities initially disclosed that the victims died from gunshot wounds, the official state records now delineate the specific scope and location of the fatal injuries:
Kimberly Michelle Grant (42): Died from stab wounds to the neck and multiple gunshot wounds.
Sharon Kay Grant (66): Died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Travis Eugene Grant (41): Died from gunshot wounds to the head, abdomen, and extremities.
All three certificates list the manner of death as homicide and note that official autopsy findings were utilized to determine the final causes of death. Each document indicates an estimated time of death around 8:20 p.m. on May 7 at the home.
A Timeline of Welfare Checks

May 4 and May 6: Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted preliminary welfare checks at the Ashworth Drive residence. On both occasions, deputies determined there was insufficient legal grounds or evidence of an active emergency to force entry into the home.
May 7: Relatives requested another welfare check. Returning around 7:15 p.m., deputies subsequently gained entry and located Travis, Kimberly, and Sharon Grant inside.
Upon clearing the scene, investigators discovered that 16-year-old Star Grant—daughter of Travis and Kimberly and granddaughter of Sharon—was missing from the property.
Apprehension and Legal Proceedings
The search led law enforcement across state lines early the following morning. At approximately 4:00 a.m. on May 8, a vehicle connected to Star Grant was spotted at a hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
By 8:30 a.m., Gatlinburg Police officers alongside Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents entered the hotel room, taking Star Grant and 28-year-old Devan Loving into custody without incident.
Both individuals were charged with:
Three counts of first-degree murder
One count of felony conspiracy to commit murder
Loving faces an additional charge of child abduction due to Grant's juvenile status.
Following extradition proceedings, Loving was returned to Buncombe County on May 14 and ordered held without bond.
