This extension provides an additional month for residents to gather documentation and submit requests for home repairs, reconstruction, or replacement.
Key Program Updates
New Deadline: Applications are now accepted through January 31, 2026.
Current Progress: Over 6,500 applications have been submitted since June, with construction already completed in Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell, and Polk counties.
Active Sites: Work is currently underway in several counties, including Cleveland, Gaston, Rutherford, Watauga, and Wilkes.
Funding: The program is supported by $807 million of the state’s $1.4 billion federal CDBG-DR allocation.
Eligibility and Priority
Service Area: The program covers 28 western NC counties and ZIP code 28214.
Priority Groups: Assistance is prioritized for low- to moderate-income families with seniors (62+), children under 18, or household members with disabilities.
FEMA/Insurance: Homeowners who have already received help from FEMA or private insurance can still apply for remaining unmet needs.
