Clyde -- July 19, 2026: Clyde Central United Methodist Church has received a significant boost to its community meal service with a $100,000 grant. The funding, provided by Maple Grove United Methodist Church, is designated for expanding and upgrading the kitchen facilities at Clyde Central UMC.
The grant directly addresses the growing demand for meals in the Clyde area, where the church currently serves more than 300 meals daily to community members in need. This level of service has strained the church's existing residential-grade kitchen equipment, highlighting the critical need for more robust infrastructure.
The $100,000 grant will enable Clyde Central UMC to purchase commercial-grade equipment, expand its kitchen, and support food purchases for its vital community meal program.
Construction and installation of the new kitchen facilities are currently underway in phases to ensure the meal service can continue without interruption. As of a July 17, 2026 report, church representatives expect the upgraded kitchen to be fully functional within approximately two weeks. During this renovation period, the church is operating an outdoor, makeshift drive-through meal service on site to maintain daily distribution.
The increased demand for meals has been notable since a recent significant event, referred to locally as "Helene," which intensified community need. By funding kitchen expansion, equipment, and food supplies, the grant from Maple Grove UMC enables higher volume meal preparation, more reliable and efficient cooking processes, and better-quality meals for recipients.
This substantial investment allows Clyde Central UMC to strengthen its capacity to serve food-insecure residents, reinforcing its critical role in addressing food insecurity in the Clyde community and ensuring continued support for its most vulnerable members.
