The park had instituted a temporary emergency closure on Monday, June 1, after recent heavy rainfall triggered a small landslide that damaged the main access road. Crews were initially expected to keep the area closed through Friday, June 5, to complete the necessary infrastructure repairs.
However, a coordinated, round-the-clock effort between North Carolina State Parks and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) allowed crews to stabilize the slope and restore the safety of the roadway days ahead of schedule.
