On October 29th. the incident began when HCSO Detectives initiated a traffic stop on I-40. The driver, identified as Devan Michael, a 36-year-old resident of Winston-Salem, initially complied and briefly stopped his vehicle. During this momentary halt, an unidentified female passenger was able to exit the car.
Michael then immediately sped away, heading into Buncombe County as detectives pursued the vehicle.
The chase concluded when Michael lost control and collided with the exterior porch of a private residence on Starnes Cove Road in Candler. Fortunately, no one—neither the occupants of the home nor the suspect—sustained any injuries in the crash.
Michael was taken into custody and charged with:
• Two counts of Trafficking Fentanyl (179.3 grams of suspected Fentanyl)
• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Schedule III
• Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
He is being held in the Haywood County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond and also on Federal Probation.
