Buncombe County -- September 11, 2026: A swift multi-agency investigation has led to an arrest and the recovery of a substantial amount of stolen property, including "personal and irreplaceable" memorabilia, taken from NASCAR legend Dave Marcis's Arden home.

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) detectives worked together, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Hailey Dawn Bowlin. Arrest warrants connected Bowlin directly to the theft of Marcis’s guns. State records indicate Bowlin was on probation from a prior conviction for possessing stolen goods.

Hailey Bowlin is charged with Probation Violation on September 2nd. The next day, BCSO Detectives charged Bowlin with Second Degree Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Larceny of a Firearm, Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and five counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. She is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.

On September 8th, Detectives also charged Cameron Samotis with Second Degree Burglary. He was arrested on September 9th in Henderson County and is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.

The burglary occurred while Marcis, 85, a retired NASCAR Cup Series driver, was out of town. An incident report filed with BCSO on Aug. 29, 2026, classified the case as felony breaking and entering at a residence involving "high-value items." Marcis, known as an "iron man" of the sport, resides in the Arden area of Buncombe County.
