Buncombe County Schools Offers Free Summer Meals for Kids and Teens

Buncombe -- June 9, 2026: Buncombe County Schools is once again bridging the summer nutritional gap by providing free meals to children and teens throughout the summer months. The program, designed for anyone 18 and younger, ensures that students have access to healthy, consistent nutrition even when school is out of session.

The program, designed for anyone 18 and younger, ensures that students have access to healthy, consistent nutrition even when school is out of session.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Buncombe County Schools, community organizations, the YMCA, and Asheville Parks & Recreation camps.

How to Access Meals

The district is offering three primary ways for families to access these free meals:

  • On-Site Dining: Enjoy meals in a supervised, social environment at participating schools.

  • Weekly To-Go Meals: Convenient pickup options for families, available at specific locations.

  • Mobile Lunch Stops: The "Rolling to Feed" bus will make scheduled stops at select housing communities. Program Schedule & Locations

On-Site Meals

  • Dates: June 12 through August 14 (No service on July 3).

  • Service Days: Monday–Friday.

  • Times: Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Locations: * A.C. Reynolds High School

    • Community High School

    • Hominy Valley Elementary School

    • North Windy Ridge Intermediate School

    • Erwin High School

  • Weekly To-Go Meals

    • Dates: June 22 through August 10.

    • Pickup Time: Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    • Locations:

      • Barnardsville Elementary School

      • Leicester Elementary School

      • Pisgah Elementary School

    • Requirement: Children must be present at the time of pickup, and registration is required.

    Mobile "Rolling to Feed" Bus Stops

    • Hillcrest Apartments: 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

    • Pisgah View Apartments: 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

    • Livingston Apartments: 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.

    • Important Information for Families

    Parents and guardians do not need to apply for the general Summer Nutrition Program, but as noted, pre-registration is strongly encouraged for to-go meal sites to ensure adequate supply.
