Buncombe County -- July 6, 2026: In preparation for the upcoming fall elections, the Buncombe County Board of Elections unanimously approved its 2026 General Election Early Voting Plan during a recent special meeting.
The approved plan was heavily influenced by public input. Over 1,000 residents participated in a recent survey to provide feedback on preferred early voting times and locations. The comprehensive schedule will now be sent to the North Carolina State Board of Elections for final approval.
Early voting allows registered voters to cast their ballots in person at any designated early voting site within the county, offering flexibility ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3. For convenience, most of the approved locations are situated along public transit routes.
Here is everything you need to know about casting your early ballot in Buncombe County this fall.
Dates and Hours of Operation
Early voting will run from Thursday, October 15, through Saturday, October 31, 2026. State law requires uniform hours across all sites, meaning every location will be open at the exact same times.
Weekday Hours:
Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Weekend Hours:
First Saturday (Oct. 17): 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
First Sunday (Oct. 18): Closed
Second Weekend (Oct. 24 & 25): 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Last Saturday (Oct. 31): 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Approved Early Voting Locations
Buncombe County voters may choose to vote at any of the following 13 locations during the early voting period:
Bee Tree Fire Station: 510 Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa
Black Mountain Library: 105 N. Dougherty St., Black Mountain
East Asheville Library: 3 Avon Road, Asheville
Enka-Candler Library: 1404 Sand Hill Road, Candler
Fairview Library: 1 Taylor Road, Fairview
Friendship Center: 142 Shiloh Road, Asheville
Leicester Community Center: 2979 New Leicester Hwy., Leicester
North Asheville Library: 1030 Merrimon Ave., Asheville
South Buncombe Library: 260 Overlook Road, Asheville
Upper Hominy Fire Station: 1795 Pisgah Hwy., Candler
Weaverville Community Center: 60 Lakeshore Dr., Weaverville
Wesley Grant Southside Center: 285 Livingston St., Asheville
West Asheville Library: 942 Haywood Road, Asheville
Voter Registration: The standard deadline to register to vote is October 9. However, individuals who miss this deadline can take advantage of "Same-Day Registration" at any early voting site during the early voting period.
Voter ID Requirement: A valid photo ID is required to vote in North Carolina. If you do not have one, you can obtain a free voter ID at the Elections Office located at 35 Woodfin St. in Asheville.
Election Day: If you choose not to vote early, Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. On Election Day, voters must vote at their specifically assigned precinct polling place.
