Buncombe County Announces $1.2M in Safety Net & Behavioral Health Grant Funding Applications

Buncombe County -- December 30, 2025: Buncombe County Government is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Safety Net and Behavioral Health Maintenance of Effort (MOE) Grants. These funds are dedicated to organizations that increase healthcare access for residents who are uninsured, underinsured, or facing high deductibles.

Funding Overview

The county has committed $1.2 million annually for a three-year grant cycle starting in FY2027. This funding is distributed through two specific streams:

Safety Net Funds: Supported by County dollars and contracted directly through Buncombe County. The annual amount may vary based on budget availability.

MOE Funds: Supported by County dollars but passed through to Vaya Health, with a fixed annual budget between $600,000 and $1,200,000.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for these grants, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Organization Type: Must be a non-profit or for-profit organization.

Service Area: Projects must directly serve residents of Buncombe County.

Alignment: Proposed projects must align with the County’s identified health priorities.
