WNC Sports News -- August 10, 2026: Downtown Asheville is gearing up for a major sports gathering as Blue Ridge Pickleball takes over Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville from Wednesday, Aug. 12, through Sunday, Aug. 16. The five-day event offers something for players of all ages and skill levels, featuring introductory clinics, open play sessions, tournaments, and community activities.
The main arena floor—which has previously hosted high-profile tennis events like the Billie Jean King Cup and Andy Roddick's Stars Serving Up Love—will be transformed into six temporary indoor pickleball courts. Attendees and participants must enter the venue through the Flint Street Entrance, located between Harrah's Cherokee Center and the Basilica of St. Lawrence near the intersection of Flint St. and Hiawassee St.
The community event is made possible through a collaboration between several local organizations, including the Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission, Asheville Pickleball Association, Harrah's Cherokee Center – Asheville, BallCrank Pickleball Club, and Asheville Parks & Recreation.
Event Schedule and Details
Wednesday, Aug. 12: Introductory Clinic from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Free for ages 12 and under; $5 for ages 13 and up). Open play sessions run from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM ($5 per person, per session).
Thursday, Aug. 13: Open play sessions run from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM ($5 per person, per session).
Saturday, Aug. 15: Luck of the Draw Tournament from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM ($10 per player, open to 3.25–3.75 ratings). Dink Tournament from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM ($20 per team). A free exhibition match presented by BallCrank Pickleball Club follows the Dink Tournament.
Sunday, Aug. 16: Introductory Clinic from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Free for ages 12 and under; $5 for ages 13 and up).
