The newly accessible segment, which includes the scenic French Broad River overlook near the North Carolina Arboretum, had been closed for repairs following extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The storm triggered over 55 landslides along a 200-mile portion of the iconic scenic byway.
The primary focus of the closure was a major landslide at milepost 401.5, in the vicinity of Ferrin Knob Tunnel No. 3. After months of dedicated work, the repairs have been completed, allowing for the full reopening of this vital corridor.

French Broad Overlook (Milepost 393.8): Offering stunning views of the French Broad River Valley and the surrounding mountains, this overlook is a popular spot for photography and enjoying the scenery.
Mount Pisgah Inn, Campground, and Picnic Area: A historic landmark offering lodging, dining, camping facilities, and access to hiking trails leading to the summit of Mount Pisgah.
Numerous Hiking Trails: The area boasts a variety of trails catering to different skill levels, providing opportunities to explore the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

While this reopening marks a major step in the parkway's recovery, officials caution that some areas may still be closed for ongoing repair work. Another project near milepost 421 is anticipated to be completed later this summer. Visitors are urged to respect all closures and exercise caution, as construction crews and equipment may still be present, and unseen hazards can exist in restricted areas.
The reopening of this 38-mile section provides a significant boost to tourism in the region and allows for uninterrupted travel through a particularly scenic portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
