The agreement solidifies the Harrah’s Cherokee Center-Asheville as the tournament's home through 2035, building on a legacy that has already spanned a combined 26 years in the Mountain City (1984-1995 and 2012-Present).
The announcement was the result of a collaborative effort between the SoCon, the City of Asheville, Explore Asheville (powered by the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority), and the Asheville-Buncombe Regional Sports Commission.
"Most Significant and Stable Partnership"
SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross emphasized the historical weight of the decision.
"This 10-year extension represents one of the most significant and stable championship partnerships in all of collegiate athletics," said Commissioner Cross. "Very few conference basketball tournaments can claim the kind of continuity and deep-rooted connection that we’ve built with Asheville over the past quarter-century. This isn't just about finding a venue – Harrah's Cherokee Center-Asheville has become synonymous with the Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships."
The extension comes after a period of sustained success, which partners credit with driving strong attendance, community engagement, and significant economic impact for the region. The 2023 Asheville Championship alone resulted in a substantial $2.3 million economic boost to the community.

A Hub for SoCon Athletics
The partnership secures more than just basketball. Asheville will also serve as the host city for the Ingles Southern Conference Volleyball Championships and the Southern Conference Wrestling Championships, affirming the city's role as a primary destination for SoCon events.
Commissioner Cross praised the community’s backing, stating, "The passion of this community and the volunteers, the exceptional management of the Harrah’s Cherokee Center, and the unwavering support from our partners... made this decision the right one for the SoCon."
Key community events, such as the local favorite Downtown Dribble, will continue to be a part of the championship week festivities, fostering excitement among area youth and fans.
The Southern Conference comprises ten member institutions across six states, including nearby Western Carolina University, and is set to welcome Tennessee Tech University as its eleventh full member for the 2026-27 season.
