Asheville -- May 14, 2026: Country music superstar and Asheville native Luke Combs was honored with an honorary music degree from Appalachian State University on Thursday, May 7, 2026, a recognition that resonates deeply across western North Carolina given his significant philanthropic contributions to the region.
The ceremony, held at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, was part of Appalachian State’s spring commencement exercises. In October 2024, he and fellow App State alumnus Eric Church organized the "Concert for Carolina" at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, which successfully raised over $24 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts across the region. The university also cited Combs' unwavering pride in the Mountaineer community and the people of North Carolina.
