ASHEVILLE — The Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care has joined a national initiative aimed at reducing homelessness, bringing new resources and evidence-based strategies to one of Western North Carolina's most pressing social challenges.
The organization announced this week that it has been accepted into the initiative, which connects local homeless services networks across the country with federal guidance, peer learning opportunities and technical assistance designed to accelerate reductions in homelessness.

The Continuum of Care is a regional planning body that coordinates housing and services funding for homeless families and individuals. Its membership includes local nonprofits, government agencies, healthcare providers and faith-based organizations working collectively to prevent and end homelessness in the Asheville area.
Participation in the national initiative grants the local coalition access to data tools, policy expertise and connections to communities that have achieved measurable reductions in their homeless populations. Officials said the partnership will help streamline intake processes, improve shelter coordination and expand permanent supportive housing options throughout the county.
Homelessness has remained a persistent concern in Buncombe County, a challenge compounded by rising housing costs and the lingering effects of economic disruption from Hurricane Helene, which displaced hundreds of residents last year.
Local advocates say the timing of the announcement is critical as the region continues its long-term recovery.
"The need has never been greater, and neither has our resolve," said one advocate. "This partnership gives us tools we didn't have before," according to a company spokesperson.
