Later, the body was taken for an autopsy to find out what caused the death. Investigators got the autopsy report on September 29, 2025, and it said that the person died from an overdose of fentanyl.
Chad Ledbetter was named as a suspect during the investigation. Investigators got warrants on October 3, 2025, for Death by Distribution and Sell or Deliver a Controlled Substance after talking to people, looking at evidence, and talking to the District Attorney's Office.
On October 3, 2025, Detectives with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Spindale Police Department, and Road Patrol Deputies arrested Chad Ledbetter on Hamilton Street in Spindale, North Carolina.
Ledbetter was given a $250,000 secured bond.
