Asheville -- August 15, 2025: Four people were arrested by Asheville police officers and detectives Thursday afternoon for possessing drugs in a park as part of proactive enforcement in response to community complaints about drug use at Murray Hill Park.
On August 14, at approximately 2:38 p.m., APD officers and detectives were conducting a joint crime prevention investigation when they observed drug sales and gambling in a park gazebo.
Daquan Tirek Verdell Miller (08/25/1998), Zachery Demon Pickens (01/03/2000), David Robert Smith (09/13/1997), and Angela Powell Carpenter (05/03/1972). were taken into custody. All were found to be in possession of drugs during the arrests. It was discovered that Smith and Pickens were carrying hidden firearms.
