Another Major Milestone in Restoring Lake Lure - Washburn Marina and the Lake Lure Beach: US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) continues operations to restore Lake Lure. If you have driven by the Lake Lure Beach and the Washburn Marina recently, you have seen the field of green plants growing in what was once our beautiful lake, filled with boats and swimmers. As we announced yesterday, the USACE and contractors have begun debris and sedimentation removal in the Washburn Marina area.
This first photo shows the first steps taken to begin this project. The cover photo is a point of reference as the location of the first photo may be unrecognizable.
This is one of the more challenging areas to work in because of the amount of water in the area.
Contractors must place pallets in the mud to stabilize the equipment as they work, as shown in the photo.
This is a major milestone for the community and a significant step closer to reopening the lake for public use next year.
- To support this effort, access to Morse Park will need to be temporarily restricted during these operations.
- To ensure the work can be completed safely and on schedule, Morse Park will be temporarily closed.
- We cannot provide a timeline for this project at this point, but weekly updates will be provided here.
The Town of Lake Lure, NC understands the importance of Morse Park to our community, and we appreciate your patience during this temporary closure. The Washburn Marina debris and sedimentation removal project is a critical component of our lake restoration, and completing it safely and efficiently will benefit everyone in the long run.
While Morse Park is temporarily closed, the following areas remain open for public use:
- Dittmer-Watts Nature Trails
- Lake Lure Green Space
- Pool Creek Picnic Park
These outdoor amenities are open to the public.
- Youngs Mountain
- Rumbling Bald Golf Courses
- Chimney Rock State Park (By reservation)
- Chimney Rock State Park – Rumbling Bald Access
- Horse Back Riding
- Zip Lining
