Asheville -- May 7. 2026: Westbound lanes on Airport Road in Arden have partially reopened following an early morning structure fire at Jim Campen Trailer Sales. Emergency crews from the Asheville Fire Department were dispatched to the scene just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday, leading to temporary road closures that impacted morning commuters.
The fire was reported at the trailer sales location along Airport Road in Arden, N.C. During the emergency response, Westbound lanes of Airport Road were closed from Hendersonville Road to Old Shoals Road. This closure specifically affected traffic heading toward the Asheville Regional Airport.
The Asheville Fire Department responded to the incident, with firefighters remaining on scene through the morning hours. Initial reports indicated smoke coming from the area, though flames were not visibly reported at the time. Authorities had advised drivers traveling through the affected area to use alternate routes and allow for extra travel time while crews worked.
One lane of Westbound Airport Road remained closed at Hendersonville Road. Airport Road's Eastbound lanes are open. Officials estimate Westbound lanes to fully reopen is approximately just after 11 a.m.
