Boone -- Boone is set to honor the legacy of legendary musician Doc Watson with a weekend of events, including a free community concert and a ticketed performance by a Grammy-winning artist.
The festivities kick off on Friday, August 15, with the annual Doc Watson Day Celebration at The Jones House. This free concert, presented by the Town of Boone, will feature musicians who both played with and were inspired by the iconic flatpicking guitarist. The celebration begins at 5:00 PM on the lawn of The Jones House, located at 604 West King Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of music dedicated to Watson's memory.
The musical tribute continues on Saturday, August 16, with a special ticketed event featuring the Dan Tyminski Band at the historic Appalachian Theatre. Tyminski, a celebrated bluegrass artist with 14 Grammy Awards to his name, is renowned for his instrumental skills and soulful voice. He is well-known for his work with Alison Krauss and Union Station, as well as for singing the iconic "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Dan Tyminski Band concert at the Appalachian Theatre, located at 559 West King Street, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this event range from $31 to $38 and can be purchased through the Appalachian Theatre's website.
