The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, operating as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, announced the arrest of John Fitzgerald Slattery on December 9, 2025. He faces 10 counts of Third-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
Key Details of the Investigation
The case began on October 16, 2025, when ICAC investigators received a cyber tip reporting "known" child exploitation material. Investigators successfully traced the information to a residence located at 156 Fairfax Drive in Ellenboro, North Carolina.
Warrant Execution and Seizure: On October 20, 2025, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence, seizing multiple electronic devices for forensic analysis.
Discovery of Additional Evidence: The subsequent forensic examination of these devices led to the identification of illegal images classified as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), which extended beyond the content detailed in the original cyber tip.
Arrest: Warrants were issued for Slattery on December 9, 2025, and he was arrested the same day.
Slattery is currently being held at the Rutherford County Detention Facility under a $250,000 secured bond.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office stressed the complex nature of these investigations. "These cases are extremely complex and require significant investigative resources," the office stated in its post.
