Increase Reward in Search for Missing Cherokee Man

TCherokee NC -- August 20, 2025: he search continues for Elijah Thomas Maney, a 24-year-old member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, who has been missing since Saturday, August 10, 2025. He was last seen walking into the woods near Lambert Branch Road in the Cherokee community.

In an effort to generate more leads and ensure Elijah's safe return, Principal Chief Michell Hicks announced on social media that the reward for information regarding his disappearance has been increased to $2,000. This is a significant increase from the original $500 reward that was announced on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Elijah Maney is described as being 5'6" tall with a slim build, medium-brown skin, brown eyes, and long, straight black hair. When last seen, he was wearing a black T-shirt over a white T-shirt, black jeans, and black shoes.

The Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) is actively investigating this case and urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward.

"We are deeply concerned for Mr. Maney's well-being and are committed to following every lead," a spokesperson for the CIPD stated. "We hope that this increased reward will encourage anyone who may have seen Elijah or has any knowledge of his whereabouts to contact us."

Authorities are reminding the public that the Labor Day weekend is approaching (September 1, 2025), and they are hopeful that someone in the community may recall seeing Elijah in the days leading up to or following his disappearance.

The CIPD is asking anyone with information to contact them directly at (828) 497-4131 or to dial 911 in an emergency. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the CIPD's mobile app.

The entire community is urged to remain vigilant and to share any information that could assist in bringing Elijah Thomas Maney home safely. WNCTimes will continue to provide updates on this developing story as they become available.
