The communities of Canton, Clyde, Maggie Valley, and Waynesville are working together to put on the event. It will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on the steps of the Historic Haywood County Courthouse in Waynesville.
The service will pay tribute to those who died, think about the problems the community is facing, and thank the first responders, volunteers, and community partners who are still working to help.
Hurricane Helene had a big effect on Haywood County, causing a lot of damage and loss. Because of the storm's severe rain, there were terrible floods, landslides, and damage to infrastructure. This forced many people to leave their homes, making life difficult for residents and businesses. The one-year remembering service gives the community an opportunity to come together. It's a chance to remember the people who died and to appreciate the amazing spirit of cooperation and compassion that characterized the county's response and recovery operations.
A representative from each town will offer remarks.
