Asheville -- May 26, 2026: Press Release: Asheville Police detectives are investigating a shooting on Asheland Avenue in downtown Asheville early Sunday that sent one person to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and are requesting the public’s help in locating the suspect.
APD officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound victim in the 80 block of Asheland Avenue around 2:01 a.m. on May 24th. When officers arrived, they located a victim with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the arm and head, and immediately rendered aid before the arrival of EMS. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Detectives and forensic technicians responded to the scene and recovered valuable evidence. Following further investigation, which included descriptions from witnesses, investigators identified Durrell Marquise Norris (07/14/1986) as the person responsible for the shooting, and he has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Discharge of a Firearm Within City Limits.
Detectives are asking for the public's help in locating Norris, who is still at large. He is described as a black male, 6’2”, approximately 152 lbs, with black hair in dreadlocks, brown eyes, a mustache, and a goatee. Tattoos include “DARKECE” on his arm, a cross on his arm, and “IN GOD I TRUST” on his abdomen.
